Webmaster Notes
Putting the webmaster notes on this main page along with the keyhandler should really test to see if there are any negative effects of doing so.
The display of this page is completely different when viewed on a mobile phone. The original idea was to have links to pages that I was working on at the time and topics that were of interest to me at the time. This proved to be confusing for the casual visitor and it gave the wrong impression. Someone finding one of my pages may have looked on the home page to see what tempusfugit.me.uk was all about. Having random topics detracted from the overall reason for the site. An example of this is Race night. The discussion is not the prime topic of this website and wasn't at the time - it was just something that I was looking at.
I have removed the Carousel Menu from this page and the code can be removed. I have also changed a lot of the drop-down menus and the page can be simplified.
This page has no scrollbars - it started as an experiment and seems to work.
The use of these notes seem to be working well and it is useful to have a quick way for me to go to pages that I am working on. The format of these notes don't have to make any sense apart from to me. Whether the notes will be indexed by spiders remains to be seen, however I don't think that this going to be a big problem. If someone makes a search using a search agent that I am not aware and the summary contains something of interest those clicking on it are not likely to see this text.
Opening external links in a new window work well for me. Not only does it allow me to audit the links in that they are still live and relevant. The fact that the calling page remains open allows direct comparison to what I have written and what the source was saying is a lot easier. An example of this my page on Sir Robert Swynborne.
Audit/Research on an iPad
As iOS needs to have an editable element on the screen for the keyboard to be displayed I have added the INPUT field that I normally place by the external links.
To get this to work on an iPad I have added thr INPUT field in the Overlay menu on this page and the 3 main pages. The INPUT field is added to the "references" section.
