Lack of Feedback on Website
Having started this website I have received very little feedback on the content. Whether this due to the fact that nobody is interested or that it just too boring I cannot be sure.
The history of the Village from Conquest/Domesday until the 17th Century is not well documented. The history of village and church is better known due to the memorial evidence seen in the church of St. Mary's today.
The documentation of the history of the village of Belchamp Walter has largely been undertaken by the incumbents of Belchamp Hall. While this is to be expected it does not help to determine what happened before their acquisition of the manor in the 17th.
Sources of research
Starting with the information sheets that were available in the church.
At the presnt time I am "auditing" this website and making/prototyping pages on the Parish Council website. The reason for this is that I am trying to determine how much traffic this site gets without the statistics being skewd by my own visits.
Medieval Ecclesiology
The fact that there are medieval wall paintings in St. Mary's church along with a memorial (chantry) to a 13th/14th century knight leads me to suspect a connection.
The chantry built for Sir John de Botetourt suggests to me that there is far more significance to Belchamp Walter's history than just a random theory that he was an underlord of the de Veres.
