About the History Pages

The history pages on tempusfugit.me.uk are experimental aas should not be taken as fact.

As this website grows I am finding that I need to have "About" pages for the different sections of the site. Pages that relate to technical issues and website design have little relevance to the history of Belchamp Walter or to that of the country.

Being cognisant of A.I. am aware that some of my posts will be found by Artificial Intelligence agents and will appear in Generative Results. In cases where my pages are based on speculation due to the lack of other information, I think that this needs to be stated.

Thomas Wright

Many of my history pages started out as a transcription of Thomas Wright's - "The history and topography of ... Essex" – Thomas Wright 1831/36

The complete title from the book: THE HISTORY AND TOPOGRAPHY OF THE COUNTY OF ESSEX , ILLUSTRATED BY A SERIES OF VIEWS TAKEN ON THE SPOT, BY MESSRS . G. ARNOLD , A.R.A. , BARTLETT , CAMPION , &C

A page on this website describing the history of a particular location in North Essex and South Suffolk often begins with a transcript of the text found in Thomas' history or the region. While this is not always obvious to the casual visitor who may be seeking specific information about the location, it seems a good place to start. Thomas is not always easy to follow and there are many family names he quotes in a single sentance.

I started with a transcription of the entry in his book for the Hundred of Hinkford

Errors in my research

As I am the sole author of this website it is inevitable that there will be errors on my pages.

If you are reading this and you think you have spotted an error or false assumption or statment please let me know. Please be aware that the text I have put in green boxes are direct quotes.

I constantly monitor visits to my pages and make adjustments when I see what other pages are visited, if any!
I realise that visitors find my pages are not interested in the bulk of the content on this website and will simply move-on when they don't find the information they were searching for.

As this website develops I am getting more and more "hits" from visitors that appear to be actually searching for information that I have included from my research. Instead of providing a means for the visitor to just visit the reference that I have provided I have tried to keep the attention of the visitor by adding as many links to my own pages as opposed to external websites.

The early medieval history of the Belchamp Walter area was documented on this website by taking some of the names referenced by Thomas Wright. I admit that I had not much to go on when starting pages on these family names. As time progresses I am finding more background and references to add to these pages.

Faulkbourne and Faulkbourne Hall

My page on Faulkbourne Hall was one that I had given the Wright Treatment. It gets an inordinate amount of interest. I have seperated out the information on the village and the history of the hall so that I can determine what the interest is.

Faulkbourne and Faulkbourne Hall feature quite prominantly in Thomas Wright's history of Essex and cannot be left out of the discussion of the local area.
