Clickable Links
In most cases the links to other websites have been made non-clickable. i.e. you cannot just click on them and visit the external site. This has been done purposely as tempusfugit.me.uk is non commercial and has nothing to gain from allowing visitors to do so. If you wish to visit these websites the text in red will allow you to see what websites I am referencing.
The concept of a "Clickable Link" is a link to another website or resource on a webpage.
As a website designer you have the choice of making links either clickable on non-clickable.
Most commercial websites that place links to other websites allow the visitor to click on the link. This website is not such a website and has no commercial interest in providing links to other websites. However, I have developed a method so the link is posted but you will have to copy and paste it to visit the external site.
The problem with a Clickable Link
I think that it is safe to say that most Internet users that make searches and find websites and pages are looking for information on a product or a service.
If you provide a link to that information the chances that your visitor will follow that link never to return is almost 100%. Unless you are being paid to promote that service there is little point in doing so.
Wikipedia and geneological websites are also other reasons why your pages are not being visited. Just think how you use Wikipedia, I know that it hard not to follow links to related topics often forgetting why I was on Wikipedia in the first place.
It will be interesting to see if this page gets any visits. I feel that I need it to attempt to see if if anyone tries to click on the links and wonders why they don't work.
New Method of citing
Having removed most of the external links from this website, replacing them with references that include non-clickable URLs pointing to the external website. To fulfill the request of BHO and that of generally accepted methods of making quotes the date of access needs to be added to the reference.
- Reference - Reference URL - date accessed: Date
The reason for the access date is in recognition that many sources are of a wiki nature they are contantly being updated.
