The Angevin Empire - 1154 – 1214
and before 1066 - 1154

There is a lot that I need to research here. The signifiance of the de Beauchamps and the Henry's I , II and III are a case in point.

The account of the White Ship affair and this time in history.

The Angevin Empire is discussed here as the period from the start of the reign of Henry II until 1214, the reign of Henry III. I a not sure where I got the 1214 from, Henry III ruled from 1216 after the death of King John.

I think that the following quote was from Wikipdia. When I last looked it had changed. Such is the nature of Wikiedia.

" Some historians apply the name house of Anjou, or Angevin dynasty, to Henry II (who was also count of Anjou) and his 13 successors; other historians label only Henry II and his sons, Richard I and John, as the Angevin kings and, for want of a better name, label their successors, notably Edward I, Edward II, and Edward III, as Plantagenets. The first official use of the surname Plantagenet by any descendant of Count Geoffrey occurred in 1460, when Richard, duke of York, claimed the throne as “Richard Plantaginet.” "

The Oxford University Press description is different.

Background to this page

Having seen some of my history pages being found by those making an Internet search I have decided to add a bit more context on how the pages came about.
