Facebook becomes Meta
Actually I think this is a positive step! It is is the "Big Blue App" that I have a problem with.
It is quite refreshing to be able to go to a "Facebook" that is not my or someone elses Facebook page. The Meta website is quite good in my opinion, but so it should as there have probably been quite a few developers working on it.
The main-stream press don't really seem to know how to report this announcement. I feel that there is an "Elephant in the room" when it comes to Facebook. The wide acceptance of Facebook usage and the simultaneous wringing of hands of the abuses that some users perpetrate on the platform doesn't seem to want to be discussed.
The Meta website
Friday 29th October 2021 is probably when it went "live". At leas that was when the announcement of the name-change was made.
I guess it goes to show what you can achieve when you have the resources to throw a few thousand at the development?
Branding
One of the reasons that Mark gave for the renaming was to differentiate between Facebook (referred to as "The Big Blue App") from other products such as Instagram, WhatsApp and other Facebook owned products.
Charity Fund Raising
One of the initiatives that I discovered on the new Meta website was the Facebook Fund-raising initiative, along with a cryptocurrency (but that is another matter!).
