Investigations into QR Codes

Having been asked a few questions about QR codes I thought that I better know a little more about them.

Update - on closer investigation there are serious security issues associated with the generation and use of QR codes. The proliferation of "free" QR generators and how they are implemented is a little troubling.

QR code to redirect to a web address

This seems rather easy. The code above, when scanned, should take the visitor to my home page. It could just as easily take the user who scanned it to a payment/purchase page.

The Future

Apparently you can embed a lot more information in a QR code, see the Wikipedia page for details and there are countless links to be found on the Internet from those that will provide you with a service to generate the codes.

In keeping with a lot of other things that you can do on the Internet with respect to eCommerce there is a lot to learn here.

Clickable Codes

Putting a QR code on a web page is great when it can be scanned by a mobile phone. If the image is made to he "clickable" then it has the same function.

Village Hall

I created a QR code for Light Up Belchamp Walter.
It was not mentioned in the village magazine for November 2022 - the QR code that is.

This was a waste of time as there is no interest in using the Internet to promote ANY activity (except Facebook) with respect to the village of Belchamp Walter.

Vistaprint

Thinking that it would be a good idea to have some business cards with a QR code to this website would be a good idea I took a look at the Vistaprint website and their QR generator. I was surprised that the QR code that was generated seemed to "port" through vqr.vc

On further investigation I am getting more and more concerned about the security of this method.
