Passing the time - knitting (Coding Web Pages)
As I said on my "about" page I code as a form of relaxation. True, there are times that I need to work out how to do something new but most of the time it is just a question of editing what I have to be consistant.
The importance of an "About" page
The "About" page gives the casual visitor an idea about what the website is all about. Up to this point my content has been too eclectic for most visitors. I have also used my web building as an exercise to create some local interest pages. There is a question of "chicken and egg" here: are the pages on local history the reason for this site or are the local interest pages a result of my web-building experiments?
How this works
The "kitting" that is.
Having run this website for a number of years I have made many changes to how it appears. I used to call this activity "fottering". The website itself has no real reason for being it is just used to provide the webmaster with some sort of mental stimulation.
Running a website is a lot of work. No matter how you think things are working the way that you want there are always errors and a better way of doing things. Syntactical errors, spelling and gramatical errors are always to be found.
With my new design template I can change each page have their own menus. At the moment I have Belchamp Walter featured on the main menu - this can be changed.
As I develop my new design I try to correct coding errors and links that I have changed.
Before I start getting awkward
I thought that I would set a few ground rules relating to the participation that I am willing to give for local websites. While I am happy to update and maintain the Parish Council website I am not so sure about the Village Hall site(s). Before I start applying my rules I am putting some background on this website so that when I am asked to post to the Village Hall site(s) I have a reference.
