Church Page Design

With the posting of the Friends pages on the Parish Council website along with the membership forms, the design of Church pages is becoming a topic for my interest.

As the pages are more likely to be accessed by a mobile phone, the QR code on the flyers that will be printed and left in ths Church, the pages on the PC site and on here need to be "Mobile Friendly".

The plan

When a page is accessed on a phone the page will display something interesting (to the phone user that is), not just text and links.

This page can be taken as an example as it has a hidden container with the image that would appear on a larger screen above the full menu.

Some of the pages such as those with the wall paintings are okay, but sub-pages from there to the Pelican for example need a larger image to appear on the phone screen.

Re-Indexing

Some of my pages have had a lot of research added to them and I have garnered a fair amount interest from visitors. These pages really need to submitted to Google for re-indexing.

These pages include those related to the wall paintings, The Three Living and Three Dead etc.

It is my contention that the reason my pages have been found is that I have made sure that the pages are indexed. I also need to make sure that the pages once found are not providing the visitor an easy way to leave the website never to return.

At the same time I might as well make sure that the pages pass the HTML/CSS validity checker

New Template

I have started the development of a new template for any new work for the Friends pages. The sign-up page is now live on the Parish Council website.

This template is drastically different from the main Church page. The page st_mary_3.html needs to be refined as it is the page that I want to direct my QR code on the postcard to.

There are too many links on the main Church page. ALL Church related pages need a link back to the main page in the Links section as the page my be being viewed on a mobile screen.

There is a case for a seperate page for the external (in fact internal as well) links on the main Church page.

I seem to still have an issue with the placement of the "Links" or "Other Pages" lable with respect to the number of entries in the links section. If there are a lot of links, like on the Church page, the lable doesn't appear at the top of the screen when the menu option is selected.

I have added some dummy links on this page to illustrate the point.
