St. Clere Raymond
St. Clere Raymond presents a bit of a mystery in the history of Belchamp Walter, Belchamp Hall and the Raymond Family.
The Freer family tree section that the Raymond name was found shows that St. Clere Raymond was disinherited due to a marriage.
William Raymond succeeded John Raymond III in 1720.
John Raymond II was the first son of St. Clere and the natural heir to the estate and he died in 1690. John II was "lord of the manor" from 1679 until 1690
As St.Clere had been disinherited, John Raymond II's son John Raymond III succeeded. However, John III died when he was only 31 so the estate reverted to St. Clere's 2nd son William.
When John III died in 1720 William Raymond, St. Clare's second son was the "holder" the estate. William was John III's uncle but John III has no issue.
When I asked the present owner of Belchamp Hall what St. Clere did to be disinherited he didn't seem to know.
There are no portraits of St. Clere in the drawing room of the hall where most of the family are hung. I am not sure if I asked about St. Clere when I was shown the other portraits.
The result of much searching turned up some information from rootsnet.com and familypedia, both sites are of dubious credibily.
The mention of Charles Dister had not come up in any of the previous searches.
The Rev. Samuel Raymond succeeded in 1732 on the death of William.
