Belchamp Walter 1720-1741

The period after a William Raymond suceeded and whoever suceeded him presumably was the one that sold the estate has always puzzled me. The William could either be the brother of John Raymond I or the son of Samuel Raymond (about which not much is known)

William Raymond (John Raymond III's brother) died in 1732 and was suceeded by another son of the disinherited St. Clere. This was a younger brother of William and could have been Edward, James or Samuel. The William Raymond, living in 1737, according to Freer, was the father of Samuel Raymond.

Above is a section of Alan Freer's family tree from his Descendants of William I research. The tree shows this descendancy. The tree also shows the descendants of the current occupants of Belchamp Hall.

The tree along with the wrttten accounts are not clear who made the decision to separate the lordship of the manor and the manor house. It is not known if the documentation for this transaction is held in the Essex Archive or locally at the hall.
