Re-indexing pages using Google Search Console

How-To maximise your quota index requests from Google

One of the advantages of Google Search Console is that you can request that specific pages are reindexed. This is particularly useful if you are trying to fix an error or problem with a page. It is also useful for submitting a new page.

There is a limit to the number of requests that you can make. If you exceed your quota then you will have to wait 24 hours for it to reset. Apart from new pages, those that you have applied new information or have applied a fix are the next. A review of the reports in GSC will determine what pages to re-submit.

It is also worth bearing in mind that there is a difference between " Will you pages be found?" and "Can you pages be found?". The first requires

Using your Quota

As part of your SEO campaign you should be using your "Quota". While it is not absolutely a requirement for your pages to be indexed, they will be in due course, there may be pages that you want to give priority.

It is not known when clock starts for the re-indexing quota to be reset. How long before you can re-submit a request could be 24 hours from the time you exceeded the limit. If you did this in the evening of a particular day then the request will not be accepted the next day (tommorrow as in the dialog above).

The questions that you may ask are:

  • How many requests are in your reindexing quota?
  • How long does it take before you get your quota back?
  • Is there a limit to the number of requests to reindex a page?
  • Do multiple requests to reindex pages when you have exceeded your quota reset the timer?

What happens if you try to make multiple requests - after you have reached your limit

Once the quota limit message has been displayed it seems that the best thing is to stop attempting to request a re-index as this may compound the lack of a position in the queue for your quota to be re-set.

The discussion relating to the measures that Google take to prevent the abuse of this very useful technique means that there are consequences to making multiple requests.

I haven't confirmed this but I think that you just have to wait.
