The Development of a Shopping Cart
When considering the "Friends" project the concept of having an eCommerce function on the website was suggested
In a similar vein to other aspects of website design there is merit in "not re-inventing the wheel". I have the technical skills to build a shopping cart from the resources that I have available to me. However, the major factor involved here would be the integration of a "Payment Platform". Again, I could do this myself but there are so many third party solutions already available
To develop a fully fledged eCommerce solution for myself is a LOT of work and not justified. If I were in a position where I need to do this I would use a third party solution. I am not in that position and nor is the Friends website.
The code for the shopping cart that I have been looking at uses PHP extensively and also uses a MySQL database. Both of these resources are availble to me.
Awesome Fonts
This subject has also re-emerged as I wanted to be able to display a shopping cart on the status bar on eCommerce pages.
Interoperable webpages are more than just the use of a media query to provide a responsive behaviour of the pages on different resolution screens. What I am trying to do is to place a shopping cart icon on both top bars, the large/medium screens and the small/mobile screen.
Getting the display of the Shopping Cart icon correct is proving to be a challange.
There are still things to learn about the use of the FA icons and the W3.css classes. I may need a dedicated page for Awesome Fonts.
