Search Dynamics

Having reviewed my external links policy and observing that it is relatively easy to obtain Impressions in Google's index for example.

Stating the obvious, Internet users will only make searches for things that they are interested in.

This is why I csn never expect a huge amount of traffic to this website as I don't post things that the majority of web users are interested in. This includes my pages on the History of Belchamp Walter and general information on the village and surrounding area.

I do record impressions and even clicks for things that don't see to exist or are covered poorly elsewhere on the Internet. I get regular "hits" for the Charles Portway Tortoise stove and the non-existant Lidl Electric Log Splitter. In the days of pandemic and working from home I was getting a lot of hits from those trying to install and run Zoom on a Windows 10 S computer. Microsoft obviously did not want people to do this as there was not version of Zoom or an equivalent in the Microsoft Store and Windows 10S would only allow the installation from there. In addition, searches were restricted to Bing.

Megan Markle and Prince Harry - Netflix

This is a case in point. If this page is indexed by Google I shoud see impressions for it. I doubt that I will get any clicks as I will be too far down the list and the impression will not be seen. The position will depend on the relative ranking my page gets in relation to all the others that there will inevitably be.

It will be interesting to see if there are any impressions as I suspect that there is an aspect of the current Google algorithm that will determine that tempusfugit.me.uk is not a site that would be featuring anything related to comment on the British Royal family. Also the fact that Google in their attempts to make searches relevant and local, may not even bother to include this page in its index even if I make a specific request to have it indexed.

It is not rocket science to know that there will be many searches for Megan and Harry in respect to the Netfix documentary on their dispute with the Windsors.

Content that I am not really interested in

Over the time I have been running this website I have posted some pages that I thought that other Internet users might be interested.

Pages in this ilk feature various pieces of garden and computer equipment that I purchased and wondered if there was any interest in what I experienced with them. It was never my intention to have an interactive forum and/or review website. I previously supplied links to user manuals and similar products or reviews but I have found that all this did was provide a means for the visitor to leave this site and I was none the wiser for their visit.

Other pages were posted on topics that were of interest to me but I found that it they were of interest to others it was more from the perspective of a desire to make a purchase and find the "official" website rather than a genuine interest in the item featured.

At one time I thought that I could harness the continued interest in Lovejoy but again the interest was only minor and there seemed little interest local history.

Analysis of visits

Observation of server logs and Google reporting show that pages are accessed using an unknown logic.

For example: A visit to my orignal page on de Vere from my page on John Helion. It is not known why the page was accessed in the first place as search strings are not captured (at least as far as I am concened). The outbound links have now been blocked on those pages as my current theory is that this was not helping in visitor retention as links once followed the visitor never came back. This is probably due to the information on the pages linked being far more intesting than mine!
