The Peruzzi and the Bardi were an Italian financial institution active in the 14th Century.
It is known that the English Monarchy (Edward III and possibly Edward II) and English Barons had dealings with the Peruzzi. I found a report that Sir John de Botetourt repaid a debt to the bank or to Hugh Despenser via the bank for unknown reasons.
The Peruzzi and the Bardi
The building of the Nave of St. Mary's Belchamp Walter coincided with the fall of the bank of The Peruzzi and the Bardi.
The Crash of Peruzzi and the Bardi family in 1345
I am not sure whether this has any relation to putting money into the constuction of church building.
The collapse of the Peruzzi and Bardi companies in 1345 was a significant event that contributed to the economic depression of the late Middle Ages. The Bardi company, Italy's largest enterprise, went bankrupt due to their investments in the affairs of King Edward III of England and the King of Sicily. They were unable to pay their debts, which amounted to more than 550,000 gold florins, to many smaller companies and individuals who had their property in the Bardi and other bankrupts. This failure led to a widespread economic crisis, with many smaller companies and private persons also going under in the crash. The bankruptcy of the Bardi and Peruzzi companies, along with other financial institutions, was a major factor in the economic downturn of the time.
