Philip Morant - 6 October 1700 – 25 November 1770
Philip Morant is often quoted as a source for the history of Essex. I have quoted him on many of my pages, or at least those that I quote have used him as a reference.
Morant was from Colchester and as such was local to the area of Belchamp Walter, his history has to have some direct relevance to the area.

The history and antiquities of the County of Essex - Philip Morant 1700-1770
The Wellcome Collection (Euston Road, London) has a copy of Volume 1. The entries for Hinkford are in Volume 2.
The link and the copy I have is to Volume 1. The fact that I can't reference to Belchamp Walter is not surprising. The index of Volume 1 has a reference to Hinkford, Castle Hedingham etc. and Easton Lodge. It would suggest that Volume 2 could have the text relating to Belchamp Walter. The Easton Lodge may or maynot be the same as the Eyston Lodge located in Belchamp Walter.

Page 229 of Volume 2 would correspond to a possible entry for Belchamp Walter and Walter de Tey but I can find no other supporting references.
