The Montgomery Family
The de Montgomery Family - The ancient Anglo-Norman family from 12th Century.
The Montgomery name came to my attention with respect to the 14th and 15th century [Thomas Montgomery (1460 - 1495)] at Faulkbourne in Essex.
While it may seem that I have too many pages on the Montgomery family I feel that the references in Thomas Wrights accounts for Belchamp Walter and Faukbourne (Hall) need some space to be unpicked. The interest that I have seen for these pages was assumed to be about the village neat Witham rather than about the history of the Montgomery family - I could be wrong.
Sir Thomas Montgomery, Esq. of Faulkbourne Hall
John Helion, Esq. was their son and heir, who, dying in 1450, left, by his wife Editha, daughter and co heiress of Thomas Rolfe, Esq. of Gosfield, Philippa, married to Sir Thomas Montgomery, Esq. of Faulkbourne Hall; and Isabel, the wife of Humphrey Tyrell, Esq. of Little Warley, to whom she bore an only daughter, named Anne, who, by marriage, conveyed this and other great estates to Sir Roger Wentworth, of Codham Hall, in Wethersfield.
Tnere are many many family connections here and the account on Faulkbourne Hall hints to some of the background on what was going on politically.
It appears that Thomas Montgomery was a pretty influencial person.
The Montgomery Family
The connection of the Montgomery family to the history of Belchamp Walter is not an obvious one.
Sir Thomas Montgomery was a pretty influencial person.
