Enterprise Resource Planning

Belchamp Walter ERP.

In a previous life I qualified as an SAP Certified Professional. The guise was in the form of an ABAP programmer.

Now it is some years on, SAP still seem to be a "player" in the computer/digital age.

What I now wonder is where this really places itself with respect to the part that the Internet plays in the world of e-Commerce?

My understanding is that there is an involvement by Oracle in the implementation of mySQL databases that are available on-line. The "back-end" of such ERP systems always revolved around the data-base, this (in my day) was either an IBM, Oracle, Informix or another "Johnny-come-lately" relational tables.
