User Exits in SAP

Having reviewed ways that visitors can leave my web pages I was reminded of the SAP (ABAP4) User Exit.

The big difference here is that I don't want a visitor to leave for another website, the SAP case is to get something to work that SAP had not! I also had a chance to look at some ABAP code and was further reminded of how shitty it was!

The explanation of the User Exit was obtuse at least. My experience with Functional SAP consultants is that they know of such things as User Exits and expect the Technical consultants to jump through hoops to get some interaction with a legacy Sales and Distibution (SD) transaction to work on a legacy system.

" User exits are used in an extraction if the standard SAP extractors do not provide the expected data or the required functionality, for instance in authorizations or time checks. User exits are commonly used in Sales and Distribution (SD) modules. There are many exits provided by SAP in the areas of sales, transportation, shipping and billing. A user exit is designed to make some changes when standard SAP is not capable of fulfilling all the requirements. "

User Exits are not only applicable to SD but across the SAP platform, or at least they were. It makes sense that they would be rife in a manufacturing environment Fwhere an SAP system is supposed to be an improvement on an older system. This would extend into the Financial side of an enterprise (FI) as well as HR and so on.
