Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (1562–1604)

Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford was rumoured to be an author of Shakespeare's works. He also featured in the History of Belchamp Walter in that his suspected involvement in the Plot against Elizabeth I by Mary Queen of Scots.

The Advowsen for the Parish of Belchamp Walter was re-granted to the de Vere's after the Suppression, when it had reverted to the crown on the Dissolution of the Monasties. Before the Prory and Convent of Earl's Colne held the Advowsen.

Lord Tresurer Burghley

William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley was Edward de Vere's father-in-law as Edward was married to Anne de Vere.

I need to check dates here, but the Advowsen of Belchamp Walter in the 1570's seems to have been at risk.

There is more information on my page on Castle Hedingham in relation to Edward and Anne de Vere.
