Botetourt, Lord of Mendlesham
When Sir John de Botetourt was "called to parliament" in 1305 he took the title Lord Botetourt, Lord of Mendlesham in right of his wife.
By this I am either presuming that the Fitz Othos' were a more prostigious family or Sir John was actually the illegitimate son of Edward I and it would have been inappropriate to use the family name that he is known by, the Botetourts of Ellingham, Norfolk.
Joyce (Botetourt) Burnell (1364 - 1407)
Joyce Botetourt was the daughter of Sir John de Botetourt and Maud de Botetourt of Mendlesham. This Sir John was the grandson of the Sir John that is associated with Edward I, Edward II and Belchamp Walter.
There is a potential for confusion here as there are multiple members of the de Botetourt family with the names John, Maud (Matilda) and possibly Joan and Joyce. Again, Wikitree is quite a good source due to its users making notes on the profiles that they produce.
Richard de Burgo
In an IPM relating to the de Botetourts and their heritage the name de Burgo came to light.
The IPM (30 Edward I - 1269) was with reference to Monte Cansio of Edwardstone and mentions Belchamp William. John de Botetourt was 34 years old and de Caniso (de Montchensy) was relation to the fitz Othos and de Beauchamps.
The IPM (section or page 368) refers to Hamerton, Huntington. This (I think) was under a section for John Botetourt along with the lands in Essex - Belchamp Oten, Belchamp Sancti Ethelberti, Belchamp William, Gestingthorp, Gosfeld and Oviton (spellings as in the IPM)
