tempusfugit.ca

tempusfugit.ca was the first domain in the name of tempusfugit that I registered. The .ca domain is a Canadian TLD and I registered it February 2004.

As you can see the website was very basic and I only had a smattering of HTML experience.

Zoneedit

There was a time when I was hosting tempusfugit.ca from an Ubuntu server in my basement in Toronto. The service I was using to assign the IP address that I was assigned by my ISP was ZoneEdit. The IP address was nominally "dynamic" but remained pretty static ocer time and only required to be re-assigned occasionally.

Timescale

Although I registered tempusfugit.ca in February 2004 I didn't really start my web design activities until around 2011. During this time I exprerimented with a number of projects that included seeing if I could use Wordpress.org software to run a website. Initially I downloaded Wordpress to my server, which had limited space and Wordpress took most of this space, and tried to build a site. I gave this up after a couple of months as I was over-whelmed by all the spam that it attracted.

The configuration of a webserver was embarked on after looking at many Linux distributions on various pieces of computer hardware that I had accumulated over the years. As programming and database work had been a recent area that I had been involved it made sense that I would want to look at a LAMP server. This not only allowed me to get a better grip on web design it also offered me the opportunity to have my own "sandbox" without having to pay for, what was then, expensive web hosting.
