You wouldn't happen to know how far bacck the Butcher and Shorten families go back in the area, would you?
I am partcularly interested in:
Elijah Shorten (1819-1889), his wife Penelope (I believe he married twice?) and children.
His son Samuel (1839-1917) and his two wives (Mary Ann Stebbings and Elizabeth Butcher) and their kids.
I wouldn't mind knowing about Elijah's ancestors either, but as I think they go back for a bit,
I won't hound you for information on them!
Elizabeth Butcher (1851-??), her parents and siblings. Her forebears too, but like above,
I think they go back a long way too.

My Great Great Grandfather, Joseph Carder, was butler to Belchamp Hall for 64 years and was married to Emma Chinery of Guestingthorpe. They had six children, Alfred James, Mary Emma, Walter, Joanna, Frederick
Anthony and Harry Joseph.
They were married in St Mary the Virgin, Belchamp Walter in 1855.
In 1855 Samuel Millbank Raymond was the principle at Belchamp Hall. Joseph Carder was possibly his
butler.
