You can place a directive in your.htaccess to effect a permenant redirection.

The following was added to my .htaccess file and it works - not that I have a page with the name oldpage.html

As I was saying on my page on redirecting the cache may need to be refreshed

There is a theory that this is not a good idea.

If a page is indexed and then if found by a search it is not clear what is actually indexed. In addition, when the search engine spiders the page it will probably index the page you are redirecting to. If the page is re-instated the index will contain the redirected page and not the new page.

The current Friends of Belchamp Walter Church had a 301 redirect on the server and was hosted on the Parish Council website. I have removed this as I am supposed to be getting "input" so that I can post it. I have re-used the page name friends.html as that is what the current QR code that I supplied points to. Donations using QR codes have been put on a back-burner by me as I can't process payment unless I am a company. The same goes for merchandise and payment and ticketing for events.
