Prenuptual
When searching the Essex Archives I came across a document that did not make a lot of sense to me as it
was not mentioned or reflected in any of the accounts and histories that I have come across before.
This prenuptual concerns a different Oliver Raymond to the Parliamentarian of 1653
and 1656. The agreement was created in 1817 and the Content states an endorsement in 1856.
The Oliver here was (G2 on the Freer Tree) brother of Samuel Milbank Raymond.
There seem to be two G2 entries on the Freer Tree.
The reason or need for a prenuptual is not clear. The marriage of Oliver and Ann is recorded as is the
appointment of him to the reverend of Middleton parish. However, there is still current sensitivity in that
the memorial in Middleton church was declined to have funds provided for its renovation.
The condition that Oliver took "Holy Orders" and "provision" was made to their intended marriage and issue
is interesting.
