Sir John Eliot
The date on the Stern/Raymond family tree where the name Eliot is mentioned is 1470. Roger Raymond married the daughter of John Elliot. Roger was the son of Philip and Agnes (nee Stern). This is in reference to the history of Belchamp Walter.
It is not known if this John Elliot is the father of Roger Raymond's wife (Christian name unknown?) - [Possibly Ragunda]
The shaping of Belchamp Walter's history in the 17th Century must have been infuenced by the goings-on with the monarcy and the unrest of the populace. The English Civil War, 1642 - 1651., resulted and was contemporaneous with the exectution of Charles I and the inaugaration of the Protectrate Parliaments of Oliver Cromwell.
Sir John Eliot (11 April 1592 – 27 November 1632) was an English statesman who was serially imprisoned in the Tower of London, where he eventually died, by King Charles I for advocating the rights and privileges of Parliament.
Little did Charles know that this would not prevent his fate!
Daughter
A daughter of the Eliot (or Elliot) family married Roger Raymond, the first son of Philip Raymond of Hundon and Agnes Stern (daughter/heir of William Stern of Essenden.
The date of this marriage is not documented (as far as I can find) and the connection between the families is not comfirmed. However it does explain the Civil War connection between the Raymonds and Stern families. Oliver Raymond was a Cromwell Parilamentarian as was an Eliot.
The date of the marriage would have been prior to 1642
