The Bayeux Tapestry
I have used many images taken from the Bayeux Tapestry on my pages to illustrate the history of the local region and the country in general.
As widely recognised the events portrayed in the embroidery are subject to a lot of interpretation and may not be the actual sequence of what actually happened.
The Interactive online tapestry
There is an online representation of the tapestry on the Bayeux Tapestry website. I do have a link for this
The scene that I use on my timeline page is scene 29, Harold is crowned King of England.
The scene of Bishop Odo in the battle is 54 - HIC ODO EPISCOPVS BACVLVM TЄNЄNS CONFORTAT PVEROS Here Bishop Odo holding a wand encourages the young men, I use on many of menus for history.
Hereward the Wake and Norwich Catheral
Hereward the Wake
Guy I, Count of Ponthieu
There is a model in the museum where the tapestry is housed that explains some of the background There is a model of a Norman manor in Winchester - this bears more investigation and Winchester appeats to be the seat of Harold's family.
William FitzOsbern, 1st Earl of Hereford
William FitzOsbern was a confirmed "companion" to William and was possibly one of the most powerful Earls in England after Conquest. Along with Bishop Odo, FitzOsbern were responsible for how the country was managed.
