The evolution of Google Analytics
I am not sure that these changes were actually made as Google anounced them as I describe on this page. The Universal Analytics ID seemed to have been maintained.
Google Analytics 4
From June 2023 Google will cease to collect and report new data from a Universal Tracking tag.
Having setup a Google Analytics 4 property and determined the GA4 tag I am in a position to make the changes
to my pages. However, the new GA4 property is now receiving data from the Universal Tracking tag. This means I have
over a year to make the changes.

Google are not clear on this!
Having made some changes to my tracking code it appears that Google have changed their approach to this migration.
Looking at the Google help page for this, updated December 2024, there is a statement.
For Google Analytics 4 properties that rely on Universal Analytics tagging for data collection, there is no additional risk when those Universal Analytics properties are shut down and deleted by Google. Once Google deletes your Universal Analytics property we’ll automatically continue to use your Universal Analytics tagging for your Google Analytics 4 property, however only if your UA tags are still on your website. If you decide to remove your UA tags, you can replace them with a Google tag.
