UA Tracking Code
My useage of Google Analytics is pretty basic. The main activity is to see what pages are being accessed so that I can make changes to them and refine what topics are of interest.
If you are running a more complex business, including an e-commerce package, you will probably need to pay more attention to what Google are currently offering.
Eye off the ball
I noticed the fact that the old GA UA code was being used by GA4 in May 2023 but I did not change the template for new pages. The irony was that I had not changed the tracking code on the main page for GA4.
I had changed the tracking code on the History template (in one place) and as far I could see it was being tracked. This leads me to believe that there are two processes that the tracking code involks. The first seems to be the same as the old tracking, page access etc and the second the more complex tracking of events on the accessed page.
What I was concentrating on was the formatting of my pages and page design. I had also been checking the
pages with the nu HTML verification website and checking that the pages were included in Google's index
using GSC. In addition, I was also documenting the process of transferring the ownership of a Wordpress.com
subscription and the use of the Gutenburg Block Editor (I see that I haven't documented this yet!)
[the Gutenburg Editor is based on the Wordpress Block Editor and it meets with mixed reviews]
Opting out of the automatic adding properties
I never did opt-out and this is probably why I am seeing thus behaviour of the tracking. In my case it does not really matter as I am less interested in conversions that can be tracked with the new Analytics.
As I have many pages that have the old tracking ID hard-coded and the tracking is sufficient for my needs, I am changing those pages with the new ID back to the UA ID.
