Menu Wordpress.com not .org

Wordpress.com vs. Wordpress.org

Such was my distain for Wordpress I failed to notice that there was a difference. However, it seems that I missed that one. On taking over a website that was "constructed" using wordpress.com I find that there are even more limitations than I saw in 2013.

The differences as far as I am concerned is that .com is a "hosted" "complete" solution and .org is a means to access the full gamut of Wordpress to install on your own server.

What happens when your Wordpress.com subscription expires

It seems that the subscription reverts to a "free" subscription. This limits the storage to 3Gbytes - the Personal plan has 6G, no email or live chat support and the free domain for a year. If you already are the registrant of a domain this is not a consequence.

The Wordpress version of the Village Hall website

Having decided to let the subscription lapse I thought that I would radically change the menus around. Actually, the site does not look too bad now. It could be made to work!

My suspicions about whether the website is actually used are still there. At the moment the bookings, on both sites, come to me. I am proposing that I update both of the sites when I am asked and see how it gets used. The mapping of the Village Hall domain currently goes to the Wordpress site, even if I get the domain under my control I will leave it as it is for a while.

  • WordPress.com is an all-in-one “build-your-own-website” platform. It’s free to get started with, and you don’t need any external hosting or external domain name. All you have to do is go to WordPress.com, sign up for an account, and you’ll be able to start building your site or blog right away.
  • WordPress.org is an open-source website software – an operating system for your website or blog. This software doesn’t cost you anything by itself, but you need to have a hosting account (a web server) in order to use it, which often comes with a price tag.
