GitHub and Pull Requests

I have pages on this on my previous websites. Some interesting information on these earlier pages relating Linus Torvalds.

The use of the term "pull request" is not unique to github or possibly other Open Source Collaboration platforms. It seems to be a term coined by Linus Torvalds when he setup the git system for the maintenance and development of Linux.

The irony here is that Linus Torvalds is not happy about the way that the github interface has developed, or failed to. In fact he seems tobe less than complementary about those that frequent the github platform and forums in general. This I have in common with him!.

In my estimation the people who use the github platform, but not all, are more interested in self promotion than they are in futhering the the development of Open Source coding.

Having worked on a number of collabrative software projects a version control system is essential so that code is developed in a logical manner.
