Do links to other websites harm my Google ranking?
Apparently Google changed their approach to the rel="nofollow" tag attribute effective 1 March 2020.
My concern was that adding linls to other websites, in the interest of citing my sources and giving attribution, was harming my ranking.
How I use rel="nofollow"
I have not changed the way that I use nofollow. I started adding it to all of my outbound links a long time ago. As this website is not a blog and has no User Generated Content or "Sponsored" content, the other combinations of the rel values.
Submitting a page for indexing by Google may be affected by outbound links. When I did this with the Craft Fair Project. It would make sense I think that the page was seen as a "Gateway Page".

Looking closer at this it seems that Google may well penalize a page that only has outbound links with no qualifier.
