Facebook shuts down news feeds in Australia

I find this story rather strange. I thought that it was "bad" that people todsy were getting their news from Social Media? Facebook shutting down ABC and other Australian news outlets would effectively shut down this activitity. I guess people really do rely on Facebook for their news and the fact that it is not there is a problem for many!

I also ca't see why there are complaints about the use of data that has been freely uploaded by users not knowing or caring about how it was going to be used and then worrying when it is used in a way that they don't approve.

Google as well

but they came to an agreement with the Australian government.

I thought that a commentator on a news channel here in the UK was saying that Google (Larry Page and Sergey Bryn) "invented" [my word] a way to read all websites and use it for their own purposes [again my own words] and ranked them in their searches - Website owners got annoyed, apparently.

If there was any anoyance it was that the website owners were annoyed that they wern't ranked higher!
