Orderic Vitalis - Historia Ecclesiastica
Orderic Vitalis and Historia Ecclesiastica came to my attention while researchig the history of Belchamp Walter, the surrounding area and the country in general.
In contrast to say Geofrey of Monmouth, Orderic is regarded as a "reliable" source.

The Historia Ecclesiastica
The Historia Ecclesiastica - "English social history of the Middle Ages" has three sections.
- The history of Christanity from the start of the first millenium. From 855 a catalogue of the popes.
- Norman affairs - these include the Conquest and the lost portion of William of Poitiers' Gesta Guillelmi.
- Ecclesiastical affairs - The crusades and the fate of William I's direct descenants ending in the defeat and capture of Stephen in Lincoln in 1141.
Earls of Oxford and Essex
Aubrey de Vere III was the first Earl of Oxford.
Henry I's New Men
Henry bestowed honours on those that served him well, Wikipedia says:
Such "New Men" include a Walter de Beauchamp.
