The Patron of St Mary, Belchamp Walter

Colne Priory was founded in 1111 by Aubey de Vere and his wife Beatrice. Before that time the chapel located at Belchamp Walter the patron was unknown

What are Patrons?

Making a search for What are Patrons? I found the following on the St Andrew's Church, Farlington, Hampshire website:

When the lord of the manor first built a church on land within his manor, he would endow it with glebe land, which produced an income to support the priest. The founder or endower of a church had the right to nominate such priest as he chose to officiate in that church, and became known as the patron

Right to nominate a priest

Technically, in a similar manner to Farlington, Belchamp Walter's parton can make a nomination for a new priest. However, this is more likely to be done by the Church of England.
