SquarePenguin/DinkyPumpkin
The website that was put together by SquarePenguin who thought that if he/she put enough information on the Internet about the subject, that someone would get it to work again!
I think that SquarePenguin's efforts were more along the lines of a website construction project (now deosn't that sound familiar?) rather than a guide to getting get_iplayer to work. In its early days the author, and I can't remember his name and I can't be bothered to look it up, he was complaining that his website was a target for spammers.

Square Penguin was using Wordpress (.org I would guess) at the time and his exeriences were pretty similar to mine in regards to Wordpress.
In addition Square Penguin was posting in GitHub as if he was the "custodian" of the get_iplayer source code. In reality the situation was that he was posting on GitHub in an attempt to use the OpenSource platform to promote himself.
Dinky Pumpkin on GitHub
It is interesting to note that dinkypumkin was the supposed author of 4od-dl on GitHub in 2013 and get_iplayer on SourceForge in 2015.

The current GitHub listing for dinkypumkin has only the 3 respositories, with a test that was posted/created the day that this page was composed. 4od-dl is no longer to be found.

Sometime in 2015 I was getting a little concerned that there were a lot of sofware developers that appeared to think that it was fair game to use the Open Source community to promote themselves.
Josh Archer, Rob Watkins or SquarePenguin??????
SourceForge
tempusfugit.me.uk has no problem with other developers using other forums to promote their careers. However, in 2021, the antics from 8 years ago don't really indicate that this is a "working" solution.

In 2013 Dinky Pumpkin was saying that he didn't maintain get_iplayer and that he was only posting to allow people to "come to grips" with the "responsible use" of iPlayer and the offerings of the BBC.
