The Indemnity and Oblivion Act 1660
The history of Belchamp Walter in the 17th Century saw the English Civil War and the Protectrate Parliaments and the return of Charles II after the Interegnum.
The fate of the inhabitants of the manor were obviously shaped by all this. The exact involvement of the residents is not known but Charles II's Act of Pariliament to pardon those not involved with the execution of his father could explain what we see here.
There must have been some relevance to a resident being a member of Cromwell's Parliament, and even the purchase of the manor from the Wentworth's preceeding this. The subsequent marriage to a participant on Queen Elizabeth's skimishes with the Spanish, knighted on the the coronation of James I.
It makes no sense to me at the present time. There is something I am not getting here - perhaps the Honywood name gives a clue.
Radio 4 - Today Programme - 2 Sept 2022
This page was prompted by a feature on this programme and visits to my The Tenures Abolition Act of 1660 page.
Which was an interview with Robert Harris about his new book.
Aug 2023 - Another feature on Radio 4 about the Stuarts
According to Wikipedia
The Stuarts - Charles II
The series is listed on the Radio 4 iPlayer website but it does not seem to be available. There is also no indication when it was aired and if it going to be aired again.
Visits (Impressions) in August 2023 were possibly because of the BBC program but it probably has nothing to do with The Stuarts series.
