Using Facebook to drive traffic to your website

Having spent more time looking at my server logs and seeing what GoogleBot crawls when I make a request using Google Search Console I have seen that pages on my site have been visited from Facebook users that have been informed that a page was posted on one of my sites.

The page in question has nothing to do with this website only in that there was an entry in my server log within a few minutes of the Facebook post. A couple things are of interest to me are the format of the referrer link in the log and the fact that the access was made a quickly as it was.

Although I am not a Facebook user and I have many concerns over its use, I cannot deny that there was a quick response gained here. However, the other observation is that once an access from a Facebook user has been made it is unlikely that the Facebook user will return. The resaon for this is part of my prognosis that Facebook is not the platform for posts that you want to be found over a longer period of time. The nature of the Facebook interface is that posts will appear and users will be notified when the post is first made but it will soon disappear from view and then difficult to find. This is the case even if the Facebook user is actually interested in the post of the website. The Facebook user is unlikely to leave the "comfort zone" of the Facebook interface and is also unlikely to make a search using Google or Bing.
