Why the 1891 Census?
I make many references to the 1891 Census in my history of Belchamp Walter. Why the year 1891?
The resaon for this is that with many thanks to the folks at Foxearth History Society the census was documented and they uploaded it to their website. Since that time it has become big business to offer Family Tree services, this is seen by the many advertisments that we see on the television for Find My Past and Ancestry.com.
What appears to have happened is that The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints has moneytised this activity and claim to have access to all geneological records, Parish and County registers of births, Marriages and deaths for the whole world. The consequence of this is if you search for specific information on a person or family the chances are that you will directed to one of their websites and offered a subscription.
While this information may well be available in local archives, such as Essex Archives, you will also be asked for a subscription to access that data.
