The importance of providing clear ways to navigate a website
1 June 2026 - I have made many comments that good site navigation is the key. I still find that I have trouble finding pages myself!
I purposely don't want to have the village and the church to be prominant on my desktop index page. The pages on the history and the village will be found by those making a search (or from AI). What I am trying to do is to concentrate on making pages that I see being found to have links to other pages that are relevant - this is almost never the case.
The key to an effective website is to have a clear way of a visitor to navigate.
What I have tried to do here is to make my pages such that they contain links to other pages that I think a visitor may also be interested.
Navigation
Navigation of this website will depend on the device you are accessing it.
I have multiple ways for the visitor to this website to enable navigation to other pages. These include drop-down menus, an overlay side menu and short-cut buttons that maybe visible to the visitor but are always accessible to the webmaster.
The design layout represents many years of development.

These menus are only seen of desktop and table displays. They are not seen when viewing pages on a mobile device.
The Overlay Menu
This is seen as a side menu on larger displays and as an overlay (popup - side menu) on a mobile screen.
