Google Cache

Pages that Google has indexed will replace those that were indexed previously. If you either delete the page or you update it then there will be a copy of the old page left in cache.

October 2023 - Since I looked at this in 2021 it seems that Google has "enhanced" this feature further. I was getting confused that the page shown above was requested to be removed from the Google index but it was still showing in the SERP even though GSC says that it had been "temporarily removed". It was the file without the _nov_ was the one that was requested to be removed.

I have now requested that the nov page be removed from the index. Once this has happened I can re-upload the "old" page with the NOINDEX.

The NOINDEX tag

I added a NOINDEX tag to the page and I also deleted it from the server. To get the page such that it could not be accessed from cache I renamed the original file "old" and I edited the original page, re-uploaded it and requested that it be re-indexed.
