An Alternative to Facebook for Small Businesses
Having observered the activities of some locals that inhabit a community Facebook group, in that it seemed to be perfectly acceptable to post advertisements on the Group pages. While this could be something that the group administrators could deem as unacceptable, it is aparently totaally okay.
Personally, I think that it is less than acceptable and is just a free form of advertising by those that are either too cheap or lazy to work out an alternative. Some of the group members have voiced their opinion of the practice but it has fallen on deaf ears.
In any case, it got me to think: "How easy is it to setup a Facebook Small Business Page?". After making a search I see that it has been covered by Facebook and although I can't seem to find if it is a free service, Facebook are more than happy for their users to setup such accounts. I guess the idea is that you keep it "in the family" and any adverts will be available to Facebook to take their own "slice".
In fact I was quite impressed with what I found on the Facebook pages (see link below). It does, however, require the Facebook user and small business person to exeert some effort in doing so. I am sure that a link to their business page would be more than accesible to the group that they are now "polluting".
Actually, I think that using Facebook for this purpose is un-professional
One of the questions that Facebook ask is if you have a website already. Surely, that is the place to post details of your business?
