New Layout test

This is a test of the new layout using rwd_min.css

The date under the menu still needs work. I have removed it for the time being.

Now that the side menu is on the screen at all times I can put more relevant links to other pages there. The bottom menu is fixed in this design as has worked well in the past for me and I was quite happy in the way that it allowed me to provide navigation to the top of the page and site map. It is also responsive be design and allows am expandable menu on a mobile device. I could do this for a top fixed menu and probably make the side menu cascade and have dropdowns as seen in the many examples to be found on the Internet. I think that my current design is better staying simple as I am not sure if a cascading menu actually helps the visitor more than it confuses them.

As this is a page related to Responsive web page design links on the side menu to the main page for responsive design as well as those to Media Queries, Pseudo Elements and Clearfix are appropriate.

I have reduced the width of the header banner so that the page looks "balanced" when loaded. I could have the fixed left menu starting at the top of the screen but I think that looks messy.

The template and css file

I have created both of these and they were used to create this page. The template is _botrespnew.html.

There were a few things that I had to add back to the .css file from rwd.css and some changes were needed for the template - this page will hopefully confirm that I have made all the changes that I need.

Having a date on the page

I have done this in the past as I feel that it is only fair to the visitor to the site that they know when a page was authored. The premise here is that it gives the visitor an idea how recent and relevant the information is. Many has been the time when I have found a page where I was looking for up-to-date information only to find that the page was 10 years or more old. Not that old information is any less valuable but in a fast moving world of electonics there is little point in trying to apply knowledge that has been superceeded long ago.

In many cases I am just "late to the table" and the programming techniques for JavaScript, for example, are just as relevant today as they were when they were written in 2009.
